Okay I’ve been going through some little Digger/Sam ficlets of mine lately and I’ve noticed a lot about how I headcanon their relationship.
I see Sam as being rather outwardly proud, arrogant even. This is a front he puts up, especially when flustered.
I believe that Digger eventually realized this and understands that the things he says doesn’t always have anything to do with how he really feels.
Here’s an excerpt from a little something I’ve been working on but didn’t post because it hasn’t been finished yet:
" ‘S-Strike two!’ ~a hint of regret laced his tone, and his voice petered out at the end.
'Wot! Sammy, yeh kin't keep leaden' me on like tha'!'
'I-I didn't mean to that time,' he pouted again, and the timbre of his voice spoke nothing but honest sincerity.
Digger sighed and fell victim again to those devastating eyes. He just couldn’t get frustrated at Sam, even if he tried. It was a wonderful gift, really, that they’d been together so long. There wasn’t as heavy a pressure to perform well at times like these. It was okay to make a mistake. It was okay to joke. It was okay to take their time, or change their plan if they needed to. Most of all, the time they’d spent together over the last several years had taught them to become more attune to each other’s bodies, and the needs of those bodies. It was easier to forgive Sam when he, himself, could almost feel how much the man needed more stimulation. So the redhead endeavored to speed up, and set to ranging over the man’s landscape of skin again— with a simple smile of forgiveness that Sam returned in silent gratitude.”
Often times in my writing, Sam’s says selfish or proud things but his body language is pleading, apologizing, or forgiving… An example of this is in my little Lazy Digger/Sam Drabble I did a while back:
" ‘Don’t try to be cute…’ Sam muttered, eyes drooping closed again, but his hand replied to Digger’s with an agreeable squeeze."
I see this as a relationship with a lot of silent understanding from both ends, but I feel like most others have been interpreting only the surface at face value and blow it off… Of course there are different head canons, presentations, and interpretations… But it’s been upsetting me a lot lately to think about how people have been viewing my OTP.
I guess that’s why I felt the need to at least express how I see these two as a couple.
And I swear that no matter what happens in the comics or in the Tumblr RP, I’m still going to ship this and feel no shame for it.
This is how I see Digger and Sam.
I wrote a little Digger/Sam drabble like a month ago and it’s been sitting in my notebook ever since. I thought I’d add more to it or change it or something—give it more meaning… but really it’s just a lazy day-in-the-life sort of deal. I was in a bored and in a daydreamy mood and just sort of wrote what came to mind so I’m not guaranteeing quality XD. I just figured since I wrote it out, I might as well post it. *shrugs*
